Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2023 is fast approaching and that means an explosion of smartphone, tablet and laptop announcements is about to happen.
The question is, what should we really expect from this year’s MWC, with so many rumors floating around the web and so many companies participating? Will we see flagship releases from the likes of Xiaomi, Oppo and Motorola? We break down all the expected announcements right here.
When is Mobile World Congress 2023?
Mobile World Congress 2023 is scheduled to take place between February 27 and March 2, 2023 at Fira Gran Via in Barcelona, its home since 2013.
However, as with most previous MWCs, we expect most of the big announcements to happen before the show begins. This year, we expect most of the big announcements to take place the weekend before the grand opening of the conference, between February 25 and 26, 2023.
What to expect from Mobile World Congress 2023
MWC usually hosts a number of tech announcements from some of the biggest manufacturers in the tech world, from Samsung to Xiaomi.
While most have yet to publicly announce plans for MWC 2023, here’s what we expect to happen at MWC 2023 based on previous announcements, as well as leaks and rumors.
Samsung at MWC 2023
Samsung usually releases its flagship smartphones before MWC – which has been the case for the past few years, anyway – leaving MWC to focus on other products.
Sony at MWC 2023
Sony hasn’t participated in the MWC show since 2019, and it looks like that won’t change in 2023.
Last year, the company said it was shifting its focus to “digital and online opportunities,” so it’s safe to assume it won’t be at the show this year either.
Huawei at MWC 2023
MWC 2023 will be an important year for Huawei with a Huawei spokesperson claiming that “it will be Huawei’s biggest year yet” at the event, taking up the entire Hall 1 at Fira Gran Via Barcelona.
As for what Huawei plans to announce at this year’s show, it’s shrouded in mystery. He took the opportunity to launch MateBook E 2-in-1 together with the top MateBook X Pro laptop and its Kindle competitor, the Paper MatePad e-reader, at MWC 2022, and we could see the same in 2023.
OnePlus at MWC 2023
The OnePlus 10 Pro was announced globally at MWC 2022, but given that OnePlus confirmed that the international launch of this year’s OnePlus 11 will take place on February 7, OnePlus’ plans for MWC 2023 remain a secret, but leaks give us an idea of what to expect.
Instead of the standard flagship launch – OnePlus according to rumors to reveal an all-new concept phone dubbed the Concept 2 at MWC 2023, following the Concept 1 announcement at CES 2020.
Xiaomi at MWC 2023
If rumors It is to be believed that at MWC 2023 Xiaomi will make a very exciting announcement in the form of a new flagship Xiaomi 13S Ultra, after last year’s flagship under the Leica brand. This is a bit of a surprise, given that the Xiaomi 12S Ultra was not unveiled at MWC 2022.
The main rumors revolve around the return of the Leica brand and the introduction of a huge 1-inch sensor, although little else is known at the moment.
Rumors also point to the launch of the Xiaomi Pad 6 and Xiaomi Pad 6 Pro tablets at this year’s show.
Motorola at MWC 2023
While Motorola is staying tight-lipped about its MWC 2023 plans for now, internet whispers suggest that we could see the flagship Motorola Edge 40 Pro make its global debut after recently being unveiled in China as the Moto X40.
Rumors point to a possible MWC 2023 unveiling, while others suggest it could debut a month later in March 2023 in India.
Pride at MWC 2023
The GSM Association is including Honor in the MWC 2023 exhibitor list with a booth – something it didn’t have at MWC 2022.
Details are tight on what to expect, and Honor hasn’t officially announced anything yet, but it coincides with the rumored launch of the Honor Magic5 series.
We fully expect Honor to make a presentation at some point during the show, though we’ll have to wait and see what it has planned.
Oppo at MWC 2023
Oppo may have had one of the most exciting launches of MWC 2022 with its flagships Oppo Find X5 and Find X5 Pro, but their successors are rumored to be coming ahead of MWC 2023 – so what will Oppo show at the show?
While it is unconfirmed, rumors claim that we’ll see a global announcement of the Oppo Find N2 Flip, a serious competitor to Samsung’s folding clamshell in the west.
Realme at MWC 2023
The first smartphone to feature 240W fast charging is set to launch at MWC 2023, and surprisingly, it will be the Realme GT Neo 5.
Realme has already confirmed that 240W fast charging will indeed be a feature of the GT Neo 5, but hasn’t said when we should expect an international launch.
rumors are currently pointing to a release near the start of MWC, which suggests we won’t have to wait long to see a smartphone with insanely fast charging.
