Collaborate to Accelerate Deployment of Salient Zinc-Ion Battery Storage Systems in US Homes
Salient Energy (“Salient”), a company that develops patented zinc-ion batteries as an alternative to lithium-ion batteries in stationary energy storage, today announced that it has partnered with Horton World Solutions (HWS), a sustainable home manufacturer. whose own composite carcass system provides best-in-class energy efficiency and construction time. HWS will hold the first field demonstration of the Salient zinc ion storage system and qualify the system for installation in the planned construction of more than 200,000 homes. HWS founder and CEO Terry Horton will also join the Salient Energy Advisory Board.
“Energy storage is a key part of building zero-carbon homes,” Mr Horton said. ‘But today’s lithium-ion systems have a lot of problems. They create a fire risk that we have to design, which adds even more time and complexity to the permitting process. When I saw that Salient zinc ion could solve both of these problems, I realized I had to get involved. ”
The Salient zinc-ion battery uses a water-based design that eliminates the risk of fire. It is built from zinc and manganese, metals that are mined and processed in North America and in large quantities around the world. The Salient Energy team has developed its zinc-ion energy storage systems to have the same power, performance and size as lithium-ion systems, so they can work as a replacement for systems on the market. Salient energy storage systems are combined with residential solar panels and allow customers to disconnect from a larger grid during outages.
“We built zinc ion to speed up the adoption of clean energy,” said Ryan Brown, co-founder of Salient. “So the ability to build zero-carbon homes with our technology is an exciting step forward for us. Our goal is to create safe, affordable and sustainable systems that will become the standard for home energy storage. We are very lucky to be one of experiences like Terry’s help us achieve that goal. ”
Mr. Horton began his career in a housing company founded by his brother Donald in 1978. During his time as DR Horton grew into the largest home builder in the United States. In 2005, Mr. Horton left the company to explore new, more sustainable approaches to housing. This work led to the development of the patented HWS carcass system and a new construction process. In 2018, Mr. Horton founded HWS to commercialize these innovations.
“The houses built today will determine the emissions of housing in 2050,” said Mr. Horton. “That means home builders need to start building for sustainable development today. I look forward to working with the Salient team to develop their zinc ion system into a solution that the entire industry can use to build more sustainable homes.”
About Salient Energy
Salient Energy is a manufacturer of zinc-ion batteries for electrical applications. The company’s own cathode materials store energy in zinc in a way that has never been commercialized before, allowing batteries to have high energy densities and use traditional battery designs compatible with standard production equipment. Salient Energy zinc ion batteries are cheaper, safer and more durable than any other on the market. Find out more: https://salientenergy.ca/
