The next super-computational photography trick of the Google Pixel series could be to tidy up your blurry videos.

It involves a way to sharpen the images captured in a video using machine learning. Based on the timing of the report, the feature could launch in time for the Pixel 8 series as an exclusive feature this fall.

On the Pixel 7, Unblur works on photos taken by any camera, not just the Pixel 7 itself, allowing users to view backup images and fix them in Google Photos. For now, this remains an exclusive feature for the Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro users.

The site’s boffins have managed to unzip the APK and even create a UI for the feature, although it’s not working yet. The report says that it is not yet fully developed. The teardown also showcased a total of 14 new video effects that are expected to be available as part of the updated video customization toolset.

The Pixel 8 series is likely to be launched in October if the previous precedent is followed. However, it’s also something we might see in Google’s preview at the Google I/O keynote in May, which will return to an in-person event this year.

Also on the horizon before the Pixel 8 is the Pixel 7a midranger and the long-awaited Pixel Fold. The leaks are starting to come thick and fast ahead of the release of Google’s 2023 smartphone lineup.
