When will it be presented?

What is Pixel 6a?

At the moment, the Pixel 6a is a steam program. Google has yet to introduce the phone, and the only mention of it comes from rumors and leaks that have surfaced online over the past year.

The leaks suggest it will be the next available premium version Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro we reviewed and recommended last year. This would be in line with Google’s previous strategy of releasing phones at an affordable a-series price Pixel 3a, Pixel 4a and Pixel 5a variants of its flagships 2019, 2020 and 2021 under a similar model are described in detail in the leaks.

The only difference is that, according to rumors, the release of the Pixel 6a will take place a little earlier than previous Google a series phones.

Release date

The strongest indication of this estimated release date came when Google CEO Sundar Pichai said call about income“I am thrilled with the products we are and look forward to sharing more on Google I / O,” confirming the fact that at the event we will see interesting equipment along with the usual software-oriented tariff.

True, this means changing the usual A-series launch schedule, given that Pixel 5a and Pixel 4a both were released in August, but even before the Pichai hint, there was growing evidence of a May launch, starting with a short and sweet tweet (above) from a tip-off from Max Jambard, which was published back in January.

This assumption was greatly reinforced when DroidLife has published documents from the Federal Communications Commission, which are believed to relate to the new phone, consisting of four different model numbers: GX7AS, GB17L, G1AZG and GB62Z. This registration process usually takes place just before launch, so this is another strong sign that we don’t need to wait long for a big day.

It is also very likely that the same launch event could be a launching pad for widespread Pixel watchthe first smart watch of Google’s own brand, designed to compete with similar ones Apple Watch Series 6. We’ll just have to wait and see if that happens, but it’s definitely likely that the two devices could share the spotlight on one of Google’s biggest stages.

The strongest impression of the appearance of Pixel 6a was in the form of photo packaging of its product:

Pixel 6a leaked packaging

This picture was first published Techxinewho received it from an anonymous source. Obviously, the design is incredibly similar to the design Pixel 6 – however, it seems to noticeably miss the neat two-tone color scheme, which can boast of this and Pixel 6 Pro.

Earlier, the Twitter tipper @OnLeaks demonstrated his impression of what the Pixel 6a might look like, and obviously he also expects a continuation of the design language from the siblings of this premium budget phone. It looks almost identical to the image on the packaging box above, but in a different color scheme, and according to the annotations, it will have a 6.2-inch screen.

Even more evidence appeared in the form of an aluminum mannequin pictured above, posted by tweeter xleaks7. This further confirms our strong suspicions regarding the design and is shown on hand as a useful reference system for the actual size of the finished tube.

According to the message from 9to5GoogleThe Pixel 6a will once again cling to the identical 12.2-megapixel Sony IMX363 sensor that was introduced on Google phones from Pixel 3. This means it won’t get an upgrade to the 50-megapixel Samsung GN1 sensor that the Pixel 6 boasts, but that’s unlikely to be a surprise, given that some such trade-offs will inevitably be made to achieve a lower price.

Accompanied by this main sensor, the same source claims that the Pixel 6a will additionally have an ultra-widescreen 12-megapixel lens and an 8-megapixel selfie camera; both are also on the mainstream Pixel 6 series, so there will obviously be a strong similarity that goes deeper than just the design.

The Twitter tip Michal Rahman was even more accurate about the specific sensors that will be present on Google 6a (which allegedly bears the internal code name “bluejay”). The triple shooters are said to be the IMX363, IMX386 and IMX355 (all manufactured by Sony).

We move on to the software, not the hardware, and it seems that the Pixel 6a may unfortunately miss the amazing motion mode feature that shocked the Pixel 6. This quirky mode takes a few shots and then combines together to add a breathtaking spirit motion blur in the background of your shot; but according to XDA developersdeveloper Cuba Wojciechowski noticed that the appropriate code has been amended to exclude devices called bluejay – i.e. Pixel 6a.

Last year, Google unveiled its first-ever proprietary processor, known as Tensor, and it has been present on both the Pixel 6 and the Pixel 6 Pro since launch. The above report from 9to5Google He further claims that this flagship chipset will also be present at 6a, which would be quite an upgrade as cheaper phones often run on less capacious silicon than their premium counterparts.

The aforementioned FCC list also confirms what the Pixel 6a will have 5G communication, Wi-Fi 6Eand NFC.

A list of additional specs was shown in the extensive leak posted by @Shadow_Leak on Twitter, which claimed the screen would be a 6.2-inch OLED with a maximum refresh rate of 120Hz and that a large battery capacity of 4,800mAh was supported. by fast fast charging 30 watts. However, we would treat this leak with a great deal of skepticism, given that even the more premium Pixel 6 doesn’t even have a refresh rate of 120 Hz.

What we want from Pixel 6a

We’ve compiled a short wish list of killer features that would like to see the Pixel 6a to become a successful sequel to the premium Pixel 6 phones that impressed us late last year. Here are the four best updates we cross our fingers at:

Camera update

The Pixel 5a had the same camera as the Pixel 5a Pixel 5 and even Pixel 4a 5G. It’s certainly a great sniper, but it’s definitely time to tweak the formula a bit with this new release to give it a qualitative advantage over fast-improving competitors.

Increase refresh rate

Google seems to lag a bit behind its Android competitors when it comes to display refresh rates; even the Pixel 6 can only offer 90 Hz, while similar Samsung Galaxy S21 and OnePlus 9 boasts a super smooth 120Hz. We would like the Pixel 6a to be improved to at least 90 Hz so that budget buyers can also enjoy a smoother screen.

Slicker software

The highlight of the Pixel 6 was how well the software worked in tandem with the brilliant hardware. З Pixel 6our editor Max Parker stated that “it has some of my favorite software features ever on the phone” (including Magic Eraser and Live Translate among other tricks), so we’d like them to come out in the midline class as well.

Wider availability

If you sit here and think why you don’t remember anything about it Pixel 5a then there are good reasons for this; it was exclusive to the US and Japan and never debuted in Europe. We’d like the sequel to also appear on the shores of the UK, because mid-range Google tends to offer a winning balance between affordable price and high-end camera performance that’s hard to beat.
