We praised the Pixel 6a in our 4-star review back in July, describing it as “a small, powerful Android phone that’s more wallet-friendly than Google’s other devices.” Now it’s even more wallet-friendly.
In particular, we liked its compact form factor, great camera for the money (again, even more so at this new price) and Google’s wonderfully clean and crisp software. As a bonus, Google promises five years of updates, so it’s a good investment.
Going back to that camera for a second, it’s really all about Google’s image processing prowess. Its dual 12-megapixel sensors are fairly modest, but the big G algorithms mean you can capture amazingly sharp images in low light.

Despite being the most affordable phone in Google’s current range, it lacks performance. The custom Tensor G1 chip is the same as the one that powers the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro, and is right up there with the Tensor G2 found in Pixel 7 and the Pixel 7 Pro.
All in all, it’s a great phone at an extremely attractive price. If you’ve got a budget of £300, you’ll be hard-pressed to do better than this Pixel 6a deal in 2022.
