Shiro, who joined us from the New York Times, will help launch, write and edit the newsletter in collaboration with The Post’s five-person support team. Shiro brings a strong voice to Help Desk’s mission to hold technology accountable and shape it around our needs as consumers, citizens, workers and parents. Energetic, curious and imaginative, Shiro will also work across departments to help envision new formats for showcasing customer service and HR content in audio, video, live journalism and more.
Before the Times, Shira was a technology columnist for Bloomberg Opinion, where she was a finalist for the 2019 Gerald Loeb Commentary Award. For nearly a decade before that, Shiro was a reporter for the Wall Street Journal and Dow Jones Newswires, covering technology and media and blogging about finance and deals. In that role, she once highlighted an eerie similarity between an investor’s pitch for Facebook stock and familiar email.
Raised in Dayton, Ohio, Shira graduated from Haverford College with a degree in political science and received a diploma from the Columbia School of Journalism. She describes herself as a keen but terrible cyclist and budding bird watcher. (She recently spent hours searching—unsuccessfully—to spot a black-billed cuckoo.) As a child, she was an avid reader of Zillions, the children’s consumer magazine from the publisher of Consumer Reports—a good start for a future contribution to the Desktop Journalist.
