The Samsung Galaxy S23 is getting a minor display upgrade

The Samsung Galaxy S23 could come with a small but potentially significant display upgrade.

Samsung’s next big event, Unpacked, is just a few weeks away, and we’re getting sustainable drip nutrition leaks and hints about what we will see. We already know all the important things related to the launch of the Galaxy S23, but the finer details remain elusive.

One such detail may have just come to light thanks to @TheGalox_ (via TechRadar). According to the insider, both the Galaxy S23 and Galaxy S23 Plus will have a display that can drop from a peak of 120Hz to 24Hz and quite possibly to 10Hz.

This won’t make these screens as flexible as their older sibling, the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra, which will be able to drop down to 1Hz when needed. However, given that the Galaxy S22 and Galaxy S22 Plus displays can only go down to 48Hz, this will represent real progress.

Screens that can lower the refresh rate as well as go up to a higher one are much more energy efficient than more static examples. This allows such screens to intelligently save power when not displaying content that requires maximum smoothness.

We expect Samsung to announce the Galaxy S23 family at a launch event in San Francisco on February 1. While all three phones will likely look similar to their immediate predecessors, they should benefit from Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 power and larger batteries.

Meanwhile, the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra may get additional camera specs with a 200MP primary sensor.
