Over the past five years, the Nintendo Switch has become a fantastic system for fans of fighting games. Having said that, there are still some serious gaps in its collection – the hybrid device still lacks games like Tekken as well as modern Street fighter games.
A few other new titles that we’re sure many fighting fans would love to see make the jump to Nintendo’s hybrid system include King of Fighters XIV and The The King of Fighters XV according to SNK. The Japanese company has mentioned the possibility of this in the past but now appears to have retracted its previous statement due to “switch hardware and technical limitations”.
Here’s what SNK producer Yasuyuki Oda had to say in a recent interview with Gamereactor (courtesy of Google translate) – mentioning that while the team “would love” to release these games on Switch, there are currently “no plans ” :
Yasuyuki Oda: “Yes, obviously, if you have a Switch, you have a lot of our retro content, you can play almost all of SNK’s fighting games, and we’ve explored this issue even with King of Fighters XIV and even XV. One of the biggest problems with KoF is that you have three characters and you have to load all the resources between rounds and so on. It really didn’t mesh with the hardware specifications and technical limitations of the Switch. That was something that really bothered us, we would like to do it and we always think about it, but at the moment there are no plans.”
So, that’s it – if you’ve been wondering about the possibility of new King of Fighters games coming to Switch, try not to get your hopes up too high. Also, you can always pick up the classic KoF games, and SNK has released some of those as well another Such modern games SNK Heroines: Tag Team Frenzy and Samurai Shodown on the device.
