Trailer manufacturer Krone is celebrating its 20th anniversarythousand anniversary of its award-winning Multi Safe trailer load securing system.

More than 20 years ago, the company decided to define a universal mechanism that could secure different types of loads: from paper rolls, steel rolls, drinks and kegs on pallets to pipes, sheet metal and various individual panels.

The result was the introduction of a modular system that allows for a dramatic increase in the number of permutations of cargo attachment, including the possibility of multiple cargo configurations on one trailer. Additional benefits cited include high strength for increased reliability and safety; lightweight, modular design; and increased speed and ease of loading as well as cost efficiency benefits.

The Multi Lock side rave is at the heart of the system. It has 126 attachment points on each side of the trailer and provides more than 3,000 load attachment options.

Each lashing point holds two tons, with a maximum allowable load of eight tons per one meter of length. In addition to this, all components are KTL coated, providing a 10-year puncture proof rust warranty.

Additional elements of the Multi Safe system include Multi Block Loading Beam Krone, a cross loading option. It has 22 cargo attachment points, located on the floor of the trunk transversely, and locked in the side Multi Lock.

The certified eight-ton Multi Wall system offers an additional wall in the trailer that can be positioned lengthwise to suit the load. The insert racks lock into the Multi Block shoe, which in turn locks into the Multi Lock side rack. Racks are attached using standard straps for securing the load at an angle of 45 degrees to the wall.

A Multi Block paper system using a Multi Lock/Multi Block combination was developed to prevent paper rolls from moving during transport. Paper rolls can be secured horizontally with minimal effort and maximum load safety.

Unlike welded components, the Multi Screw pallet stop can be quickly and easily installed or removed from the side panel of the Multi Lock, making them more efficient, safe and mobile.

The twistable Multi Lash attachment rings allow universal secure tying of all hooks, the company adds. Flexible strap eyes allow the strap to be inserted into the Multi Lock side rave profile at the correct angle to keep the straps flat and provide maximum load security.

The chain adapter option provides a solution for all other types of hooks or chains as well as chains, and with the use of the two side Multi Lock attachment points, the attachment capacity is doubled to four tonnes, allowing it to be used anywhere on the trailer. .

A strapping system called Multi Strap minimizes strap loss and ensures the correct number of straps are available to safely load the trailer.

Meanwhile, the belt lock allows the load belts to be pre-adjusted before loading, saving the driver from having to throw belts over high loads or climb onto a loaded trailer. The straps are easily removed by gently pulling on the load

Finally, the Multi Fix system fixes pipes, round steel, sheet steel or any other complex shaped objects. It is said to offer maximum security with minimum provisioning time.

With the Multi Safe system, says Krone, “operators can ensure safe loading, safe transit and safe unloading, thereby protecting their employees and society at large.

“Each module of the Multi-Safe system can be quickly attached and the load securely secured. One person, easy to operate, reduces labor costs and increases the speed of execution.’

Users include Bowker Transport, whose managing director Bill Bowker said: “The Krone Multi Lock side load securing system is probably the most flexible and secure we’ve seen.”

David Kay of K Transport Services commented: “The unique lashing system is so flexible that we can transport any type of mixed steel cargo, providing a varied and efficient service for our customers and making empty returns a thing of the past.”

Peter Jones of Sunhill Transport said: “Reducing empty miles, making loading easier and improving safety. All in all, a valuable asset to our business.”

Bob Milton, managing director of Tap Freight, added: “Krone’s unique cargo security features are essential in the hazardous chemicals sector.”
