The company’s vertically integrated structure makes it a leading manufacturer of nano-silicon for lithium batteries

Ionic Mineral Technologies (Ionic MT), a domestic advanced battery materials technology company, is emerging from stealth mode today to debut its breakthrough halloysite-derived nanosilicon, Ionisil™, which can be used as a replacement for graphite in lithium-based batteries. Almost all automakers are looking to nano-silicon to unlock much longer range and faster charging for electric vehicles (EVs).

“At Ionic Mineral Technologies, we are the first to tap into this vast natural resource for the electric vehicle supply chain. Because of our approach, scalability is our advantage.”

As the only vertically integrated nanosilicon manufacturer, Ionic MT is uniquely positioned to become a leading domestic nanosilicon supplier and accelerate an electrified future. The company controls the world’s largest deposit of high-purity halloysite, the ideal raw material for large-scale nano-silicon production. Halloysite’s natural nanotube structure allows Ionic MT to use a top-down approach to nanosilicon manufacturing, offering significant advantages in scalability and environmental sustainability over competitors.

“Nanosilicon derived from halloysite has been a game-changer in this field,” said Andre Zeitoun, founder and chief executive officer of Ionic Mineral Technologies. “At Ionic Mineral Technologies, we are the first to tap into this vast natural resource for the electric vehicle supply chain. Because of our approach, scalability is our advantage.”

“Ionic Mineral Technologies is entering a hot market at an opportune time,” said Ram Chandrasekaran, head of road transportation at global energy research firm Wood Mackenzie. “With EV battery demand expected to grow to more than 3 TWh by 2030, the need for next-generation battery materials is greater than ever.”

The company is launching just weeks after the Inflationary Reduction Act (IRA) was passed. IRA tax credits for electric vehicles depend on domestically produced battery minerals, a largely non-existent supply chain. Ionic MT is committed to addressing this “Achilles heel” of legislation and sourcing minerals and battery materials from the US.

Next week, the company will be at The Battery Show in Novi, Michigan at booth #3420, with CEO Andre Zeitoun presenting “Hallussite-derived nanosilicon: scaling from top to bottom” in the Gold Ballroom on Wednesday, September 14 2022 at 3:00 PM EST.

Ionic MT operates from its initial pilot plant and laboratory, which includes a full battery testing laboratory, wet halloysite beneficiation, and a silicon pilot furnace to convert halloysite to nano-silicon.

About Ionic Mineral Technologies

Ionic Mineral Technologies (Ionic MT), an American leader in advanced battery materials, is paving the way for an electrified future. The company’s vertically integrated operation produces nano-silicon (IonisilTM) to increase the power and charging speed of lithium-ion batteries. Third parties, including the US Department of Energy’s Argonne National Laboratory, have tested Ionic MT’s halloysite-derived nanosilicon product, and the company is on track to become one of the nation’s largest producers of this critical battery material and help meet demand throughout the market electric vehicles, stationary storage and other decarbonized markets.
