Honda Amaze has achieved 5 lakh cumulative sales

Honda Cars India (HCIL) on Wednesday said its popular family sedan Amaze has sold a total of five lakh units since it was first introduced in 2013.

The car, currently in its second iteration, has a strong position in the Indian sedan segment and enjoys a preferred brand status among private buyers.

The Amaze is currently the best-selling model for HCIL, accounting for 40 percent of the company’s sales. Being an India-centric product, the ‘Made in India’ Amaze from Honda’s Tapukara plant in Rajasthan is sold in both the domestic and export markets in various countries, it said.

“Honda Amaze is our strategic model to enter the Indian market and a key pillar of our business. Its popularity and acceptance in both big and small cities is a testament to the fact that the premium sedan not only meets the needs of customers but also exceeds their expectations,” said Takuya Tsumura, President and Chief Executive Officer, HCIL.

The Amaze is available with both a manual gearbox and a CVT with the 1.2-litre i-VTEC petrol engine, as well as the 1.5-litre i-DTEC engine. As automatic transmission models have grown in popularity among customers, the Amaze’s share of automatics has gradually increased from 9 percent at the time of its initial introduction in 2013 to more than 30 percent today.

In line with the strong market shift towards petrol over the past few years, the petrol variants of the Honda Amaze dominate the overall sales at 93 per cent across the country, HCIL added.
