Apple updates AirPods Pro with better sound and an easier-to-find case

. has announced the first update to its AirPods Pro since the high-end product first went on sale in October 2019, adding improved sound quality and an updated carrying case.

The new model, which keeps the previous generation’s $249 price tag, offers clearer sound and the H2 wireless chip, Apple said during a presentation on Wednesday. The new headphones also include an updated carrying case with holes for speakers that can generate noise to help customers locate the device.

AirPods are an increasingly important part of Apple’s Wearables, Home and Accessories category, which brought in about $8 billion in revenue last quarter. The Pro models offer active noise cancellation, giving consumers a reason to pay for the higher-end version. The rest of the models are priced at $129 and $179, while the over-ear version of the AirPods Max is $549.

The first AirPods were launched in 2016 as part of an expansion of audio accessories that also included the HomePod mini speaker. The company is also working on a more advanced, larger home speaker that will be released next year, according to Bloomberg News.

Bloomberg News first reported plans for an AirPods Pro update in May 2021.
