7 tips to prevent diarrhea during monsoons

Monsoons tempt you and increase your craving for street food. But that craving can come at a cost. During the monsoons, food and water are two things that get contaminated easily. This eventually leads to diseases like diarrhea as germs and bacteria multiply in abundance during this season. To help you out, here are some tips to help you prevent diarrhea during monsoons.

Tips to prevent diarrhea during monsoons

  1. Drink boiled water
  2. Wash your hands before eating
  3. Avoid foreign foods and prefer homemade hygienic food.
  4. If you eat out, avoid leafy vegetables as you can’t be sure if they’ve been cleaned properly
  5. Always eat well-peeled and washed vegetables and avoid leftovers
  6. Do not eat fish as this is the breeding season and there is a chance that you may get an upset stomach or an infection
  7. Avoid getting wet in the rain as much as possible to avoid all the bacteria around you

Since our bodies are susceptible to infections, taking some precautions is good, but in case you have diarrhea, here are some things you can do:

  • Boil water and drink it throughout the day, as diarrhea dehydrates the body
  • Do not eat solid food. Eat clear liquid food first
  • In the case of less severe diarrhea, boiled rice and cottage cheese can be included gradually after a liquid diet
  • Drink plenty of warm herbal teas, especially those with antibacterial properties, such as basil leaves, ginger, pepper and honey
  • Digestion is slow during monsoon due to humidity in the atmosphere, so eat in moderation only when you are hungry
  • Include antioxidant-rich foods like green tea, fresh fruits and nuts to fight infection
